Sarah from Iraq shares the top five things she likes about the United States. What are some of your favorite things?
The culture of the United States is very interesting. It is primarily Western, but influenced by other many different cultures such as African, Asian, Native American and Latin American. For non –Americans, there is kind of different perspectives about the culture of the U.S. Some may like that culture or be impressed by it; some may want to adopt it as a new way of life. Some people may like some aspects of the U.S. culture and not like other aspects; as with any culture in the world, it has its own pros and cons. Like any culture in the world, it had its positive and negative aspects.
This culture pushes individuals to be creative and rewards them for that. For instance, there are many contests and competitions in many companies. They ask for any innovation or any creative ideas in any project and offer rewards for that. This can be a motivation for many people to try to be creative and come up with innovative ideas.
There is very easy accessibility to all learning resources; including free public libraries and many other resources such as free online courses. All the most recent published best books and all learning resources are available. For those who want to learn anything, all the most recent resources are available, and some of them are free.
By observing the American life and American people; the sense of Individualism is very obvious. It is a good value because it will lead the individual to be independent, which will drive the individual to be a leader and successful.
This is what the U.S. is all about. Freedom of worship, the freedom of speech, the freedom in creating your own life. The American people do not have to say or do anything they do not believe in. They do not have to pretend to be what they are not. They can be themselves in everything. Freedom is the core of the American national values.
This is really an amazing quality of the U.S. America just like the globe in a smaller scale. Many people are from different countries and different cultural backgrounds and all of them are Americans. These include, Chinese, Africans, Europeans, Latin Americans and people of the Middle East. People from different ethnic and racial background. The U.S. can be the home of everyone who wants to consider America as a home.
President Obama in one of his speeches said:
“We believe in a generous America, in a companionate America, in a tolerant America. It does not matter whether you are black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, abled, disabled, gay or straight. You can make it here in America if you are willing to try.”
What President Obama is saying here relates to the qualities of Americans that I have been discussing. These qualities give Americans the sense that they have access to the nation’s shared life. The U.S. is a great nation, the land of freedom. It is the land of opportunity, which is why I say may God bless America.
